Tools

Beading thread to match your chosen beads, (K.O. apple green/Fireline 4lb crystal);
size 10 to 12 beading needles; scissors; ready-made chain necklace, 1x;
half hoop and ring earring findings, 1pair;
jump rings, size 5 mm, silver, 3x;
flat nose pliers, 2x

Procedure

Size: Each pendant measures approximately 4.5 cm in length.

Note: In the diagrams, beads with a black outline are the new beads being added, beads with no outline were added in previous rows.

Step 1

To make your first pendant:

Take a pinch each of R10A, R10B and R10C and mix them together on your bead mat. Figure 1.

Step 2

Thread your needle with 60 cm of thread and pick up 30x R10 (in random order) 1x KH33, 1x R8 and 1x R10. Skip the final R10 but pass your needle back through all the remaining beads except the first 10x R10. Figure 2a.

The KH33 should slide over the R10 and rest on the R8. Adjust the thread to leave a 20 cm tail thread. Figure 2b.

TIP: When passing back through the beads for this step, use the eye of the needle instead of the point. This avoids splitting the thread and may make the following steps easier.

Step 3

Form a loop at the top of the pendant and exit the stem by passing your needle through the first 14x R10 added in the previous step. Figure 3.

3

Step 4

Pick up 9x R10 and pass your needle back through the eighth R10. Figure 4a.

Pick up 4x R10 and pass back through the first 3x R10 added in this step. Figure 4b and 4c.

Step 5

Without adding any beads, follow the thread path shown in Figure 5 making sure you pass through the R10 inside the KH33. Pull your thread firmly as you work.

5

Step 6

Thread your needle onto the tail thread and travel to exit the 8th bead down the stem. Pick up 9x R10 and pass your needle back through the eighth R10. Encourage the new leaf section to lay on the opposite side of the stem to the first leaf. Figure 6a.

Pick up 4x R10 and pass back through the first 3x R10 added in this step. Figure 6b and 6c.

Step 7

Without adding any beads, follow the thread path shown in Figure 7. Pull your thread firmly as you work.

7

Step 8

Still working with the tail thread, tie a small overhand knot and carefully pull the thread so that the knot is buried inside the next R10. Repeat 2 more times. Repeat on the other side of the pendant loop with the remaining thread and trim both threads.

Step 9

Using the 2 pairs of flat nose pliers, carefully open a jump ring and pass it through the loop on the pendant and a link at the centre of the necklace chain before closing it again. Figure 9.

Step 10

Make 2 more pendants by following steps 1 – 8.

Step 11

Using the flat nose pliers, open a jump ring and pass it through the loop on one of the pendants and the ring on an earring finding before closing it again. Repeat with the other pendant and earring finding. Figure 11.
