Materials

A hollow frame with an eye - width: 1 cm; an adjusting chain length: 10 cm; a carabiner; 4 mm rings – 6x

A hobby loom; a round piece of elastic with a diameter of 1 mm - 2.5 m or according to the used loom; a 0.20–0.25 mm nylon line; a thin needle; scissors; flat-nosed pliers; a tape measure

Procedure

Step 1

First, measure the circumference of your ankle using the tape measure. Subtract 3.5 cm from the circumference (i.e. the length of the fastening and the frame). This will result in the length of the woven strap. The strap in the example is 21.5 cm long (the total length with the fastening is 25 cm). Select a hobby loom accordngly, i.e. according to the distance between the front and the back of the loom (a children's loom). In the case of slender ankles, you can use a bead weaving loom or an embroidery frame.

Step 2

Thread the warp, i.e. with four pieces of elastic. Do not stetch the elastic - leave it loosely placed.

Cut off about 1.5 m (an arm span) of nylon line. Start weaving the weft. String 3x R. Leave about 15-20 cm of line free at the start. Press the R into the gaps between the pieces of elastic from below. Thread the line through them from the top one after the other. Do not sew in the elastic! Tighten. String another 3x R. Move them up to the elastic. Once again, press them in from the bottom and sew them in from the top. Continue weaving the pattern. Create a complete row of 3x R with the terminating line and sew them in from the bottom and the top. Leave about 15-20 cm of the line protruding. Prepare another 1.5 m of line. Once again leave 15-20 cm free at the beginning. Continue weaving.

Step 4

Create your own pattern or make triangles, rectangles, squares and rhomboids according to the drawing. The strap is 21.5 cm long.

Remove the elastic from the loom. Cut off the ends of the individual strands. Tie a simple knot in the elastic (create a loop and thread the elastic through it). Place it and pull it just behind the woven section. Tie a knot in all the pieces of elastic at both ends of the woven strap. Cut the elastic off about 2 mm after the knot.

Step 6

Place the pieces of elastic into the gaps in the frame one after the other. Also press in the fourth knot and crimp the top. Do the same at the other end of the strip.

Step 7

Now, sew in the free ends of the line. Thread the end of the line into the eye of a needle. Pass the needle and the line through the outer row of R. Pass it through 1x R in the 2nd row. Carefully sew under the line lying on the elastic. Create a loop in the line and thread the line through it twice. Tighten. Pass the line through the remaining 2x R in the row. The knot will disappear into an R. Pass the line through 1x R in the 3rd row. This time, pass the line through the loop in the line once. Tighten. Pass the line through the remaining 2x R in the row. Cut off the line. Continue in the same way with the end of the line on the other end of the strap.

Step 8

Tie off the end of the line in the middle of the strap (the end of the terminating line and the beginning of the new line) with three knots. Thread one end of the line into the eye of the needle. Pass the needle through the nearest row with 3x R. Do not tighten the line, but remove it from the needle. Now thread the second end of the line into the eye of the needle. Pass it through the same 3x R. Tighten both ends of the line. The knot will probably disappear into a hole in the R. Cut off the ends of the line.

Step 9

Connect 1x 4mm ring to a carabiner. Connect both end links of the adjusting chain using a 4 mm ring. Connect the eye of the frame and the ring on the carabiner using a 4 mm ring. Connect the eye and the ring with one more 4 mm ring. Continue in the same way with the second frame and the ring on the adjusting chain.
