Material and Tools

Materials

A wire star with eight spokes (a semi-product used for Christmas snowflakes); a 4 mm ring

Tools

Nylon thread (Nymo; S-lon); a thin needle; scissors; needle-nose pliers or snipping pliers + round-nose pliers; flat pliers

Procedure

Step 1

Prepare about 3 m of nylon thread, i.e. 2 arm spans. If the thread is too twisty, run its entire length between your nails. Thread the centre of the thread under the intersection of the wire star's spokes. Tie the thread above the intersection with three knots.

Step 2

Cover and simultaneously reinforce the centre of the star. Start twisting one part of the thread around the intersection of the wires. Twist around the internal area of the opposite sector 2x. Move to the adjacent opposite internal area of the sector and twist the line around it 2x. Fill all eight sectors in this way. Repeat the process using the second part of the thread. Then tie off both threads using three knots.

Step 3

String 4 cm R onto a wire spoke. Start with 1x R10 and then add R8 (preferably 19x). Snip the wire to 8-10 mm. Grasp the end between the rounded points of the pliers. Twist a loop by moving your wrist. Hold the R on the wire using your other hand. The R8 should be able to move slightly. Twist the thread into the gaps between the R. String all the spokes.

Step 4

String one line of the thread into the eye of the needle. Tie a simple knot next to the eye. This will prevent the thread from frequently slipping out of the eye. Occasionally tighten the knot. Sometimes allow the needle and thread to hang freely so as to prevent it from twisting excessively. The spiral turns anti-clockwise. String 3x R10 onto the thread. Twist the thread 2x between the 1st and 2nd R8 on the nearest, preferably the lower, spoke. String 3x R10. Twist the thread 2x between the 2nd and 3rd R8 on the next spoke in order. String 4x R10. Twist the thread 2x between the 3rd and 4th R89 at the next spoke. String 4x R10. Twist the line between the 4th and 5th R8 at the next spoke.

Step 5

The thin spiral. Pour out a bag of R10 into a pile. Run the needle into the pile. The R10 will string themselves onto the needle. Occasionally mix the pile up. Prepare several centimetres of R10 on the thread in this manner. Count the gaps between the R8 on the individual spokes. Also twist the thread 2x into the gaps on the wires. Adapt the ideal number of R10 to the distance between the spokes at the height of the gap between the R8. The drawing includes the recommended numbers of R10.

Step 6

The dense spiral. Continue to twist the thread 2x into the gaps between the R8 on the spokes. The distance of the gaps between the R8 is smaller. On the other hand, the prepared stringing of R10 on the thread will be longer: 10 cm and more.

Step 7

Pass the second part of the thread through the created spiral. Thread the needle through the individual "windows" between the spokes and the "filaments" on the spider's web. Only twist the thread around the wire in the gaps between the R8 once. Once the thread has been passed through the entire spiral, tie off both ends using three knots. Pull the ends of the thread back into the R10.

Step 8

Hang the spider's web on an earring hook using a ring.
