Home decoration with microbeads

Today, we are going to work with colorful microbeads. You can choose from a range of shades in these very delicate beads which are reminiscent of small grains of sand. Cover a hollow blown glass shape or any other object with a smooth surface with glue and then sprinkle them on.

Materials & Tools

Tools

Water soluble glue (make use of the surface tension of the fluid); a hollow glass shape (for example an egg); water; skewers; a brush; a bowl for diluting; fine paper; a large flat box, for example a lid (at least one); a flowerpot.

Procedure

Step 1

The inside
Dilute the glue with water 1:1. It should almost flow like water.

Carefully pour the liquid inside the egg.

Pour it around the internal surface. Allow any excess to drip out.

Carefully sprinkle in the microbeads above the box.

Turn the egg to distribute them over its surface.

Empty out any excess microbeads by gently shaking or tapping the egg.

Step 7

Leave it to dry. Preferably in an electric oven at 100°C for about 1 – 3 hours.

Leave it to cool. The egg can also be used in this phase of decoration.

The outside

Apply the undiluted glue with the brush.

Insert a skewer into the egg.

Wind the delicate paper around the neck.

Hold the egg in one hand. Use the other hand to sprinkle microbeads above the box. You should preferably have as many boxes as you have colors. Otherwise, you will have to empty the microbeads from the box after the use of each color.

Step 13

Insert the skewer into a flower pot, for example. Remove the paper. Leave it to dry.

Step 14

Gently wipe off any excess microbeads. Finish it off with a cap with a ring.
