Christmas decoration made from PRECIOSA Terra Intensive seed beads

A Christmas rocket is a traditional Czech decoration. You can make this oblong Christmas tree decoration using the crocheting technique and Czech seed beads by following this tutorial. If you use the seed bead colors from the PRECIOSA Terra Intensive collection, you will end up with bright Christmas decorations that will provide distinctive color accents to your Christmas.

Materials

Jeans crocheting yarn; a Big Eye needle or a stringing needle with an eye made from a fine line; a 1.25 mm hook; 2 eye pins; 2 caps; hollow fibre

Procedure

Step 1

First string the R10 onto the crocheting yarn. String the R10 according to the pattern in the illustration (fig. no. 1a The Pattern). The stringing direction is marked by the arrow or you can string according to the stringing table (fig. no. 1b The Stringing). The grey points are omitted, while the red ones denote R6f seed beads. Only the colored R10 are strung (fig. no. 1c).

TIP: Divide the rows with small strips of paper - this will help you avoid any errors between rows.

Step 2

Create the initial loop and then make 2 chain loops without any R10 (fig. nos. 2a-2b). Poke the hook through the first loop and then crochet 6 crochet stitches onto it so that this creates a circle (fig. no. 2c).

Step 3

Add 6x R10 to the 1st crocheted row (fig. no. 3a). Crochet a stitch behind each thread (V's): poke the hook under the thread, move 1x R10 from above and crochet a stitch. Complete the entire row in the same way (fig. no. 3b).

Step 4

Add 6x R6f in the next row: a total of 12x R all around (6x R6f and 6x R10). Always add two R (1x R10 and 1x R6f) to each loop from the previous row (fig. nos. 4a-4b). Create the entire row in the same way (fig. no. 4c). Crochet another three rows straight (fig. no. 4d).

Step 5

Add another 6x R10 to the next row: a total of 18x R all around (12x R10 and 6x R6f) (fig. no. 5a). Always add to the first (colored) loop: the pattern will twist in more of a spiral then. Make the entire row (fig. no. 5b). Crochet three more rows straight (fig. no. 5c).

Step 6

Crochet the following rows similarly and add 2x R10 to each first loop in the (colored) tip until you have 36x R10 all around (fig. no. 6a-6f).

Step 7

Reduce the R10 by skipping the last stitch at each tip (fig. nos. 7a-7b). To attach the first cap, insert an eye pin with an eye and a R6 into the decoration (fig. no. 7c). String the remainder of the yarn into the needle and sew up the opening. Tie a knot and cut off the remainder of the yarn. String a cap and a decorative R6f seed bead onto an eye pin (fig. no. 7d) and use the pliers to create an eye into which you will thread the cord for hanging (fig. no. 7e).

Step 8

Fill the decoration with hollow fibre and continue reducing the R10 until there are only 6 remaining (fig. nos. 8a-8d). Attach the second cap in the same way as in Step 7 (fig. nos. 8e-8h).

Hang any bead or seed bead on a wire from the bottom eye (fig. nos. 9a-9b).
