Procedure

Step 1

Thread the warp onto the loom. Tie the thread to the edge of the loom. You can twist it around the loom lengthways or use the outer notches: catch the thread in them and continue on the other side. Ideally, the threads should be 4 mm from each other.

Find out how tight the thread will need to be. String several FPB onto the needle and place them next to the internal slot (3.5 cm). In the case of a 4 cm fastening, this requires 9x FPB. It is necessary to stretch eight threads between them plus two more at the edges of the FPB, i.e. a total of ten threads. The bracelet woven from FPB is quite chunky and heavy, so double the outer threads.

Step 2

Cut off about 1.60 m of thread. Thread the end into the eye of the needle. Leave about 40 cm of thread free at the beginning of the weave. This will come in handy for creating the edges glued into the internal slot on the clasp.

String 9x FPB according to the pattern in the illustration or make your own pattern. Press the FPB from the bottom of the warp and thread the line through the FPB again from the top of the warp in the opposite direction. The warp will therefore be located between two threads of the weft. 40 rows are strung in this way according to the pattern. The bracelet will be 17.5 cm long, including the fastening. The number of rows can therefore be used to influence the length of the bracelet.

Step 3

You will need about 3 x 1.60 m of thread for the entire bracelet. Complete the row whenever the thread starts running out (both weft threads). About 15 – 20 cm of thread should then be sticking out. When using a new piece of thread, also leave 15 – 20 cm free at the start. Sew two to three rows. Tie off the end of the thread with two knots. Now, you can pull the ends of the threads into the FPB and cut off the excess.

Step 4

You have completed all the rows. Now create the edge for gluing into the slot in the fastening. The depth of the slot is 0.9 cm – 2 rows of R8. Instead of the FPB, insert 2x R8 into the gaps and 1x R8 at the edge. Tighten the weft so that the width of the woven section narrows. String one more row of R8. Sew the thread into this last row. Pass it through about 5x R8. Create a loop around the thread, pass the needle through it once and tighten. Pass the thread through another five R8 and once again tie a knot. Pass the thread through the remaining R8 and cut it off. Create the same edge from 2 rows of R8 on the opposite end of the woven part.

Step 5

Cut off the warp threads. Leave about 10 – 15 cm of thread free. Always tie two threads together with three knots. Shorten the threads to 0.5 cm.

Step 6

Prepare the glue. Apply it to the internal slot on the fastening. Also apply a little glue to the cut threads. Insert the end with the R8 into the slot. Check whether the thread is poking out and, if necessary, poke it back into the slot. Allow the glue to dry.

The fastening with a hollow hanger

Create one row of R8 at the end of the woven section, just like in Step 4. Tie off and shorten the thread as in Step 5. Slide the hanger on. Close the top. Connect a carabiner to the eye on one of the hangers and the chain to the eye of the other.
