Tools

Beading thread to match your chosen beads; (One.G yellow/One.G pink/ Nymo D pale pink)
3 mm wide curb chain; silver, approximately 60 cm;
jump rings, size 5 mm, silver; 68x;
split rings, size 5 mm, silver; 7x;
clasp 2x; heart charm 2x;
scissors; flat nose pliers; 2 pairs
wire cutters; size 10 to 15 beading needles

Procedure

The finished necklace measures approximately 38 cm (plus extension chain) and the bracelet measures approximately 15 cm (plus extension chain).

Step 1

To make the first flower:

Thread your needle with 1.1 m of thread and pick up 6x R10A. Leaving a 40 cm tail, pass your needle through all the R10As a second time to form a ring and then pass through the first R10A again. Figure 1.

1

Step 2

Add 1x R10A between each R10A added in the previous step and complete the row by stepping up through the first R10A of this row. Figure 2.

2

Step 3

Add 2x R10A between each R10A added in the previous step and complete the row by stepping up through the first R10A only of this row. Figure 3.

3

Step 4

Working in herringbone stitch, pick up 2x R10A and pass your needle down the next R10A in the previous row and up the next R10A. Continue in this way adding a total of 6 pairs of R10As and complete the row by stepping up through the first R10A only of this row. See Figure 4.

4

Step 5

Following step 4, work another 5 rows of herringbone stitch, adding 12x R10A per row and completing each row by stepping up through the first R10A only of each row. Pull your thread firmly as you work and encourage your work to form a tube. Figures 5a and 5b.

Step 6

Work a single increase row by adding 2x R10A onto each pair added in the last row of the previous step and 1x R10A between each pair. Complete the row by stepping up through the first R10A only of this row. Figures 6a and 6b.

Step 7

Pick up 3x R10A and pass your needle down 2x R10A instead of the usual 1, through the single increase bead added in the previous step and up the next 2x R10A. Continue in this way adding a set of 3x R10A onto each pair added in the previous step. Complete the row by stepping up through the first 3x R10A of this step only and tie off and trim the working thread. Figures 7a and 7b.

7 / a

Step 8

Thread your needle onto the tail thread and pass through the central hole to exit the inside of the flower. Pick up 8x R6A and 1x R10A and pass your needle back through the 8x R6A and back through the central hole to exit the top of the flower.

Figure 8a. Pick up 1x R6A and pass through the central hole, through the 8x R6A and the R10A and back through the R6A and the central hole again. Figure 8b. Retrace the thread path twice more to strengthen the central stamen and then tie off and trim the thread. Figure 8c.

Step 9

To make the necklace:

Following steps 1 – 8, make 2 more flowers. Make 1 using R10B and R6B and 1 using R10C and R6C.

Step 10

Using your wire cutters, cut 3 links of chain. Open a jump ring with the pliers and pass it through the R6 on top of one of the flowers and through a link at one end of the chain. Close the jump ring. Figure 10.

10

Step 11

Repeat step 10 to add 1 flower to each chain link. Figure 11.

11

Step 12

Cut a 36 cm length of chain, find the centre link and attach a split ring to it. Using the jump rings and working out from the centre of the necklace, add 1x R6 to every second link along both sides of the necklace. Figure 12.

12

Step 13

Attach 1x split ring to either end of the necklace and add the clasp to one of the split rings. To create the extension chain, cut 10 links of chain, add the charm to a split ring and attach it to one end of the small section of chain. Attach the other end to the split ring at the end of the necklace. Figure 13.

13

Step 14

Connect the cluster of flowers to the necklace by attaching the link at one end to the split ring at the centre of the necklace. Figure 14a and 14b.

14 / a

Step 15

To make the bracelet:

Following steps 1 – 8 make three different coloured flowers.

Step 16

Cut a 13 cm length of chain. Open a jump ring with the pliers and pass it through the R6 on top of one of the flowers and through the centre link of the chain before closing the jump ring. Using the same method, attach the 2 remaining flowers at equal distances along the chain. Add 1x R6 to every second remaining link. Create an extension chain by cutting 10 links of chain, add a charm and split ring to one end, a split ring to the other end and then attach the split ring to one end of the bracelet chain. Attach another split ring and the clasp to the other end of the bracelet.
