Round seed bead case

Thanks to this tutorial, you will be able to create a luxurious small accessory case: a case for a small mirror, a compact, a handkerchief or car keys. This is an opportunity for those interested in creating perfect results with careful and patient work. The chosen colour combination corresponds to the Preciosa Ornela fashion trends for the 2013 spring-summer season.

Materials & Tools

Other materials and tools

Metal parts
2x gold ovals or rings (the attachment of the strap to a handbag), 1x gold crimp bead (the connection of the loops to the strap)

Miscellaneous
a 0.30 mm wire, a 0.20 mm line, a lining, a zip (half the length of the circumference of the case), a thin ordinary thread or a thin 0.10 mm line, scissors, a needle, flat nosed pliers, snipping pliers

Procedure

The case is sewn into a round shape using a round peyote stitch and it consists of two halves (a small bowl). String one rocaille and add the second one in the majority of the rows (they create new rows). Add 2x R in some rows.

Step 1

Row 1
String 12x R and tie them into a ring. Let the shorter end of the line stick out about 15 cm; it will be used later to sew on the central 4 mm beads.
Row 2
Add 2x R between every two seed beads in the initial row: a total of 12x R.
Rows 3 - 4
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads in the initial row: string a total of 12x R in each row.
Row 5
Alternately add 1x R - 2x R - 1x R – 2x R - 1x R: string a total of 18x. Add 2 cream seed beads.
Row 6 – 7
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads: string a total of 18x R in every row.
Row 8
Alternately add 1x R - 1x R - 2x R - 1x R - 1x R - 2x R: string a total of 24x R. Always add 2x R above the cream section.
Row 9 – 10
Sew in 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads in the previous row: string a total of 24x R.

Step 2

Row 11
Alternately add 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 2x R: string a total of 3x R. Add 2 beads above the grey-blue point
Row 12
Sew 1x R in the gaps between the seed beads of the previous row: string 30x R.
Row 13
Alternately add 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 2x R: string a total of 30x R. Add 2 beads above the cobalt point
Rows 14 – 17
Sew 1x R between the gaps in the previous row: string a total of 30x R.
Row 18
Alternately add 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 2x R: a total of 42x R. Add 2x R above the blue-grey point.
Rows 19 – 20
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads of the previous row: string a total of 42x R.

Step 3

Row 21
Alternately add 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 2x R: a total of 48x R. Add 2x R in the cream point.
Rows 22 – 23
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads of the previous row: a total of 48x R.
Row 24
Alternately add 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 2x R, 1x R - 1x R - 1x R - 2x R. Add 2x R above the cream point and in the middle of the topaz protuberance: a total of 60x R.
Rows 25 – 28
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads in the previous row: a total of 60x R.
Row 29
Alternately add 1x R - 2x R and do it 9x: a total of 66x R.  Add 2x R above the blue point.
Rows 30 – 32
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads of the previous row: a total of 66x R.
Row 33
Add 1x R - 2x R and do it 10x: a total of 72x R. Add 2x R above the topaz fragment.
Rows 34 – 37
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads of the previous row: a total of 72x R. Carefully tighten the rocaille one after the other.

Step 4

Row 38
Sew 1x R into the gaps between the seed beads of the previous row. Only add half the row: the central straight lines of the three blue squares and also the three narrowest places near the cream sections. Repeat the entire procedure once again. Sew both parts of the case together at the identical coloured parts.

Add 1x FPB to the centre of both parts. String the beads on the end of the line next to the initial row, pass it back to the opposite side between the rocailles and pass it through the FPB. Secure the line with two or three knots, sew in the end, pass it through the nearest seed beads and cut it. Create a loop for the strap at the edge of the connection of both halves. Pass the line through the rocailles 2x and tie it off inside the case. The loop consists of 8x rocailles form the outside. String the strap from the top of the larger loop onto the wire.

4

Step 5

Start with the 4 mm seed beads (FPB). Use 25x FPB and always alternate 1x Rand string a metal rocaille. Make the lower loop from 6x FPBB: always alternate with 1x R. String 2x R in the lower section. Pass the wire through the metal rocaille. Supplement the second half of the larger loop (25x FPB and always alternate with 1x R). Tie off the wire with two knots and hide the ends. Connect the strap to the case using two ovals.

Step 6

Adjust the length of the zip. Measure the circumference of one half across the middle. This serves as the diameter for the size of the lining. Cut two circles with a 0.50 cm addition. Sew and crease half of the circumference of the circles. Set the size of the zip according to the length. Also crease the second half which has not been sewn and take in the addition material. Sew in the zip. Insert the created pocket into the case and sew it in near the zip. It is possible to sew the case without a lining. In that case, it is not necessary to make the case so wide. The closure consists of a large bead and a loop of the appropriate size. The case with the lining should exceed the inserted item by about 0.5 cm before you start to make the last side rows. If there is no lining, 3 mm is sufficient.
