Kateřina Krausová graduated from the Glass Applied Arts Secondary School in Železný Brod and the Glass Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under Professor Vladimír Kopecký.
She creates glass objects, pictures, designer utility glassware, glass costume jewelry and jewelry. At the same time, she also teaches specialist artistic subjects at applied arts schools.
In recent years, she has dedicated herself to the phenomenon of Jablonec costume Jewellery, taken an interest in the sustainability of the traditional production of glass beads and seed beads and is looking for creative options in this area.
She is presently involved in promoting local production of predominantly pressed beads in the form of custom workshops for the public and she is also cooperating with Preciosa Ornela.
During inspirational visits to smaller pressed bead manufacturers, she selects specific products and uses them to create original costume jewellery collections that enable this unique Czech product (one whose entire creation stems from the Czech Republic ranging from the very raw material, i.e. the highest quality European glass sand found in the Bohemian Paradise, through to the final finishing) to stand out.
A leitmotif of her jewellery creations is the original and unconventional treatment of classic glass beads and new interpretations of traditional techniques so as to give rise to timeless, yet courageous designs.
You can find her studio and workshop in the Craft Alley (Ulička řemesel) in Turnov, under the name Artistic Laboratory (Umělecká laboratoř).
