The certified management system

PRECIOSA ORNELA, a.s. focuses its activities on its traditional production program of glass costume jewellery and technical glass, but it intends to gradually supplement this to include special glass products for demanding industrial applications, including for the automotive industry. The introduction of this type of product naturally requires effective and high quality management throughout the entire company, which needs to be substantiated by means of the appropriate certificates acquired from renowned independent certification bodies in order to meet the requirements of some customers.

The introduction of a number of management systems according to international standards, including the certification thereof, began in 2012 (the quality management system, the foodstuff safety management system). A certificate substantiating the non-hazardous nature of the products according to the RoHS standard was acquired one year later. In 2015, preparations began for further certification (the environment management system, the occupational safety management system) and these systems will be certificated this year in June-August. The company also began to deal with the system for the management of social responsibility and the management of the work environment using the 5S methodology in this period. The company has been involved in preparations for the most demanding certification system for quality management in the automotive industry since 2016.

icon pdf download smallEach of the systems has been implemented in those parts of the company where they are necessary and and economical. We consider the planned and interconnected implementation and the use of all the aforementioned standards to be of significant benefit. This means that we have created an integrated management system (IMS). This system involves several levels of management, starting with the company's top management and the appointed management representative for the IMS through to the implementation team and on to the executive managers and the other employees at the administrative and production centres. The system is supervised both by an external certification body and by internal audits undertaken by the management and by inspections of the operations.

image014 The implementation of the quality management system began according to the ISO 9001:2009 standard at the glass stopper centre (and in the associated centres of the mixing house and the laboratory) in 2012 and the system was certified in that year. The quality management system was gradually expanded in the following years to include the LIBA and BKZ centres and the pressing plant.
In 2015, the system was re-certified and one year later it was raised to the current ISO 9001:2016 standard during a supervisory audit.
We are currently considering expanding the system to other centres within the framework of the GLASS section.

Food safety (process E2)

A system securing the non-hazardous nature of the glass stoppers

image015 The implementation of the quality management system began at the glass stopper centre (and in the associated centres of the mixing house and the laboratory) in 2012 according to the ISO 22000:2006 standard and the system was certified in that year. The impetus for this was the certification of the PRECIOSA GS, a.s. affiliate according to the same standard.
The system was recertified in 2015. We are currently not considering expanding the system to any other centres within the GLASS section, because the stoppers are the only product which comes into contact with foodstuffs (beverages) during use.

Social responsibility (process E3)

A social system responsible for the company's behaviour with regard to its employees and its environs

  The company instigated social responsibility on the basis of the higher application of this standard at developed companies and after its experiences from a customer audit in a previous company. It also proceeded from the fact that the clients have already required the introduction of this type of standard at two affiliates in the PRECIOSA Group.
Social responsibility is designated by a number of international standards and one Czech standard. We choose the IQNet SR 10 standard, because the other standards are certificated within the framework of the multinational IQNet association.

image016 We place significant emphasis on environmental protection and we endeavour to minimise any negative impacts of our production on all aspects of the environment. In order to maintain the variety, uniqueness and high level of our products, it is not only necessary to pay attention to the quality of the used raw materials, research, development and the improvement of the used technology, but also to the correct environmental behaviour of both the company and all its employees.
PRECIOSA ORNELA, a.s. has its own team of specialists; company ecologists, who flexibly respond to the frequent changes in the national and European environmental legislation.
Emergency Plans have been compiled for all the company's premises and they have been approved by the Regional Authority for the Liberec Region and the Municipal Authority in Železný Brod.

Occupational safety (process E5)

Occupational safety and health protection for the employees and visitors to the company

We place significant emphasis on the protection of the health of our employees and any visitors to the company. We endeavour to minimise the negative impacts of production and any other activities on our employees. We have analysed the risks and possible health impacts and we have implemented the necessary measures against any such risks.
PRECIOSA ORNELA, a.s. has its own occupational safety specialists, who flexibly respond to the changes in both national and European legislation concerning the protection of life and health.
A multi-level process of periodical occupational safety training is applied.

Chemical responsibility (process E6)

As a company which handles large amounts of raw materials of various types, we are aware of our responsibility to handle chemical substances safely and economically and to adhere to the international standards requiring companies to ensure the safe chemical composition of their products.
We are aware of the REACH and CLP standards and we respect them in our operations. We have successfully received certification for the RoHS standard, which limits the use of selected elements and compounds in products,  for the LIBA 2000 and 2000+ glass and for any products made from this glass.

The working environment (process E7)

The creation of workplaces whose arrangement and tidiness enable high quality production, the protection of occupational safety and successful presentations to clients and state organisations

We apply the 5S system at selected workplaces in order to increase the quality, safety and culture of work.
As such, we only leave essential items in the workplace and we eliminate any non-essential operations, tasks, inventories, tools, etc.. We assign places to all items and we keep the items in their assigned lmeplaces. We clean and tidy the workplaces and their equipment and in doing so we eliminate any risks and errors. We standardise any matters pertaining to the working environment and keeping it tidy. We permanently influence the self-discipline of the employees, we endeavour to further improve the system, the procedures and the working methods.

IATF quality (process E8)

An additional component to the quality management system according to ISO 9001 – increased requirements for exceptionally high quality supplies of products to the automotive industry.

Automotive companies began to show an interest in glass parts for automobiles in 2016. We instantly expressed an interest in this undoubtedly very demanding and very carefully tested type of production for a prestigious industrial field.
It became apparent that certification according to the special standard for the automotive industry, initially designated as ISO/TS 16949 and then as IATF 16949 from October 2016, was  essential for the realisation of this path.
The preparation for such demanding certification is a long-term process and it affects all the levels of management with the coordination of the company's top management.

Business continuity (process E9)

Measures against the effects of fundamental natural disasters or industrial accidents with the aim of rapidly renewing production and protecting the business

Deliveries to the automotive industry and to some other branches are highly sensitive to the adherence to the delivery dates. The shutdown of a vehicle assembly line is always associated with very serious financial and other impacts, which may even lead to bankruptcy. Our customers must be sure that we are able to renew production and the deliveries for them even in the case of natural disasters or industrial accidents.
The business continuity system includes an element of the effective protection of the lives and health of the employees in the aforementioned serious cases and an element of the rapid restart of production. As a result, the system protects our company's business.

Customs simplification 

An authorised economic operator

aeo cs On 2.3.2017, PRECIOSA ORNELA, a.s. was issued a permit as an authorised economic operator - customs simplification. 
The permit is issued to reliable economic operators which are aware of the issues involved with customs, are financially stable and have provided certain guarantees not only to the customs authorities in the Czech Republic., but also  in the EU member states and it is essential to approach these companies in this manner.
