Travertine Necklace

Necklace made from PRECIOSA Twin™ and PRECIOSA Solo™

Create an original piece of jewelry according to this tutorial. This unmistakeable travertine necklace will become an accessory for everyday wear and for special occasions. You will achieve an amazing effect using Czech two-hole PRECIOSA Twin™ seed beads which go excellently with the one-hole PRECIOSA Solo™ beads. The color and surface finish closely imitate the mineral travertine which has been used both to create jewelry and to build the Coliseum in Rome. Be inspired by the colorful diversity of the beads and seed beads from the PRECIOSA

Traditional Czech Beads brand to create a new, unique color scheme.

We wish you much inspiration and creative ideas.

Procedure:

Create a sleeve. The basis consists of a circle made of 7 rows of Solo (S) and Twin (T) beads with the occasional addition of a rocaille (R) or Twin. The rows interlock together. Sew the next T of the new row in the gaps between the Twin from the previous row. Sew on tears (drops) to the edge of the sleeve using rocailles.

Rows 1 - 2:

Alternately string T, S, T, S,... A total of 95x T and 94x S. Secure the end of the line by threading it through one hole in the first T once again and create a loop. Tilt the S upwards and the T downwards.

Row 3:

String the new T and thread the line through the second hole of the previous T. Add 1x T to the next five gaps and add 1x R and 1x T to the sixth. String 1x R in front of the Twin in every sixth gap and 1x T in the others. Fill the final four gaps with 1x T. Add 1x T to the end of the row. String a total of 96x T.

Row 4:

String 1x T and pass the line through the second hole of the previous T. String 1x T into the next two gaps, add 1x T and 1x R into the third gap. Add 1x T to the next two gaps. Add 2x T to the third gap. Repeat the process of adding beads: alternately add 1x T and 1x R or 2x T to every third gap. Only add 1x T to the last gap at the end of the row. Also pass the line through the second hole in the last T forming the point. String a total of 112x T.

Row 5:

String 1x T in the first and second gaps and 1x R and 1x T in the third. String 1x T in the next 13 gaps and 1x R and 1x T in the 14th gap. Continue in this way around the entire circumference: 13 gaps with 1x T, the 14th gap with 1x R and 1x T. Add 1x R at the end of the row and in the seventh gap after the last added rocaille. Add 1x T in the last three gaps. Add a total of 111x T. Insert the line into the second hole of the last T in the 5th row from the second hole in the Twin from the previous row forming the point.

Row 6:

String 1x T in the three following gaps, 1x T into the fourth and 1x R after it. String 1x T in the next six gaps and 1x T and 1x R in the seventh. Repeat this to the end of the row and add 1x R to every seventh gap. Add 1x T to the last gap at the end of the row. Thread the line through the second hole of the Twin from the previous row and insert it into the second hole of the last T from the 6th row. String a total of 110x T.

Row 7:

Add 1x R and 1x T to the first gap and 1x T to the sixth. Add 1x R and 1x T to the seventh gap. Repeat this to the end of the row. Add 1x T to
the last three gaps. Add a total of 109x T. Now tie off all the ends and beginnings of the nylon lines (fig. 1). You will need about 3x 1.5 m of line (3x the length of an arm span) to sew up the sleeve. Secure the ends of the line by repeatedly threading it through the hole of the Twin and in doing so create a loop. Unravel the loop when you create another row from the same line. Do not overly tighten the line. The rows may be

loose and there may be slight gaps between the Twins. The line from the previous row is tightened by stringing the next line.

Hanging the tears

String the line into the last T from the 7th row. Secure the end. String 6x R. Add the tear and 2x R. Count off three of the six strung tears and thread the line through the third. Thread it in such a way so that the hole in the rocaille lies horizontally to the sleeve (a stringing as in the case of a right angle weave stitch). String another 3x R. Leave out one T from the 7th row and thread the line through the next one in the direction of the stringing, from end to end. Continue in this way to the end of the 7th row. Secure the end of the line (fig. 2a). Secure the line in the second Twin from the end in the 7th row. Thread the line under the already sewn on connection for the tear. String 6x R, the tear and 2x R. Count off three beads from the tear and pass the line through the third one. String another 3x R. Cross the line and the rocailles above the next tear connection and insert it into the free Twin. Continue in this way to the end of the row. Sew in the line used to sew on the tears (fig. 2b).

Attaching the fastening

Prepare a fastening with uninterrupted loops (a counter-ring or a loop made from a soldered chain). Tie the line to the line between the 3rd
and 4th rows (thread it through a pair of Twins, tie a double knot, pass it through a pair of Twins, tie a simple knot and insert it in the Twin at the point). String 1x R, the loop from the fastening and 1x R. Insert it into the second hole of the Twin at the point. Pass it through another two Twins. Insert it into the second hole of the last threaded Twin. Return to the Twin at the point. Pass the line once again through the rocaille, the fastening loop and the second rocaille. End the line on the line between the 4th and 5th rows. Proceed in the same way in the second part of the fastening on the second point (fig. 3).

Affix the fastening.
