Today, we are going to take you on a very special safari expedition. But we won’t be hunting down the Big Five, as they are known, or other exotic animals in the wild. Instead we will be tracking unique pieces of art created from beads on wire, and discover a rare collection of animals made of glass beads.
International artist and author Torsten Becker, who uses beads and seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads™ collection, employs a fairly simple technique to breathe life into his small animals. And the diversity of his work knows no bounds – all species are ‘fair game’. Thanks to a special threading technique developed by Becker, any animal, from a horse or lion to a woolly mammoth can be faithfully reproduced in miniature. Torsten Becker shares his rich experiences:
When creating animals from beads it is important – apart from having detailed instructions – to work with a high quality bead.
As a result of the particularly close cooperation that the German bead artist has with the manufacturer of PRECIOSA seed beads, he can create and offer objects to his customers with truly unusual colors and beads shapes. In his "Just-Bead" e-shop, which has been up and running since the beginning of 2013, Becker sells books about beading and accessories, as well as a large selection of beads, and beading tutorials that can be downloaded free of charge.
Becker became fascinated with this hobby at a young age, and he pursues it with one constant in mind.
"I want to create beaded animals that resemble real ones as much as possible, thereby inspiring others to consider this wonderful hobby," he explains. “I am thrilled when my customers and beading enthusiasts share ideas and suggestions with me, and I love helping them out with tips for more complex projects. This way the wishes of experienced beaders are also fulfilled. So how about it? Are you curious?"
